Artist Statement
“quietplace”
In nature I find my quietplace. It is a cloud meandering in the sky, ocean shore line after a wave has receded, a pond dotted with lilies, a hideaway in wooded surroundings… In my journey as an artist I seek to capture these subtle energies that surround us.
I work with the watercolor properties of acrylic paint. I am interested in the interaction between the paint and surface - how the paint flows and how the canvas surface holds it. A wash of paint soaked into a thin weaved, untreated (or raw) canvas creates a delicate and fluid ambiance; the same paint applied to a thicker weave with a thin layer of gesso as a barrier between the paint and the canvas adds a coarseness to the imagery.
As with watercolors, there is no way back. It’s all about letting go. The result is a delicate immediacy.
