Artist Statement
I love the metaphor of quilts as something that keep you warm and safe in the dark of night. For this reason, my quilts often contain psychological and dream images. I work spontaneously, usually starting with only a glimmer of an idea. I dye and bleach my own fabric and often use photo transfers on cotton or silk organza, layering images. The completed quilt often helps me understand something new about myself.
In the summer of 2008 I became an artist in residence at Redline, a new arts incubator in downtown Denver (www.redlineart.org). Working around other artists is inspiring me to work three dimensionally and begin to move away from the traditional quilt format. I continue to adhere to the quilters tradition, where women use fabric to tell the stories of their lives.
