Artist Statement
I am a fine artist with a mission to save items from the landfill through reducing, reusing and upcycling material to make sustainable eco-conscious art. All the materials used in the making of my art were saved from entering landfills. The mixed media items are given to me, or purchased from thrift stores and given new life through my layering of found photos, translucent fabric, ribbon, lace and leather scraps, buttons and bead just to name a few – the frame is also refurbished to make beautiful work for your home and keep items that really do not need to be in landfills out. Save our planet and enjoy the beauty of my work.
Biography
Deborah Abbott grew up on a farm in Ohio & at the early age of five decided she was going to be an artist. She went on to obtain a BA in Art in 1989 at Anderson University in Anderson, Indiana & in 1996 completed a MA in art from Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana. Majoring in printmaking in undergraduate school followed by ceramics & metalsmithing in graduate school. In 2013 she relocated back to her husband’s hometown in Colorado with her four children (my oldest, an artist as well) & two-stepchildren to continue her creative journey. Today, after working as an art educator for almost 30 years, she has an immense amount of gratitude for students’ insight & vision. She truly believes that each & every one of us is creative at our core – we just need to explore it.
