The physicality of hand fabrication can have a transformative effect on materials. My interest lies in the ability to dynamically manipulate materials into a dialogue of movement and social interaction. The work I create fosters an interesting relationship between line and mass, object and space, steel and wood, movement and stasis. Many of these traits contradict each other however ultimately harmonize and unify each chosen element.
The nature of the wood is to spread out, and be liberated, and steel is calm, in stasis and cold; carving the wooden form, shaping, welding and grinding the steel changes each of these materials into a new object. This unifies the materials, and although contradictory, it changes their nature.
