Satellite Handbook

Acceptance of Satellite membership constitutes agreement to the following:

Benefits:

  • Satellite members are showcased in the annual Satellite members show (in half the gallery). In this exhibit, Satellites are invited to display 1-2 of their more ambitious works.
  • Satellite members participate in the December holiday cash-and-carry show equally alongside the Full and Associate members. This show is in the entire gallery.
  • Satellite members get one free submission to any EDGE Gallery open shows.
  • Satellite members get 1 image plus text (including links to artists’ website/social media) on the Satellite member section of the EDGE Gallery website.
  • Satellite members can put business cards in the EDGE holder.

Rules and Procedures:

  • Satellite membership is open to artists living in Colorado.
  • Artists must represent themselves.
  • The term for Satellite membership is January 1 – December 31. (No prorating of dues will be implemented for partial year memberships.)
  • Dues are $120 per year, non-refundable. For new members, payment is due by Dec. 1 (one month prior to their start date). For returning members, payment is due at the drop-off for the Holiday Show. In cases of financial need, other payment plans can be arranged (however, artists must pay for 6 months before exhibiting). Forms of payment are limited to the following: cash, check, money order, or Zelle.
  • The maximum number of Satellite membership slots is 12.
  • Satellite Members are not allowed to submit artwork to EDGE Gallery juried shows. (NOTE—this policy is the same for Full and Associate members.)
  • Satellite members’ show slots are non-transferable (i.e. only Satellite members’ work can be exhibited—Satellite members cannot invite someone to show in their place).
  • Satellite members won’t have jobs, sit the gallery, or get keys. They will not go to meetings, receive copies of the minutes, be included in general EDGE Gallery emails, or vote. They will not get access to the “Members” password-protected section of the EDGE Gallery website.
  • Communication of relevant exhibition and other information to the Satellite members will be done by the Satellite Committee. (NOTE–The Satellite Committee is also responsible for managing applications, collecting dues, and keeping records.)
  •  Images of artwork submitted to EDGE or shown at EDGE may be reproduced for advertising, marketing, and promotional purposes without notification to the artist.
  • Annual renewal of the Satellite program is dependent on volunteer availability.
  • EDGE reserves the right to change the policies of the Satellite program annually.

Exhibition Policies:

  • EDGE Gallery will be responsible for the layout and installation of the artwork, as well as the formatting and printing of title cards.
  • Installations (or any difficult to hang/install pieces) must be installed by the artist.
  • EDGE cannot accept shipped work. Satellite members must be able to deliver and pick up their work in person (or by proxy) on the designated dates.
  • For the Satellite members group show, refreshments for the opening reception will be provided by EDGE Gallery. EDGE will also be responsible for the wall vinyl. Postcards will be furnished by EDGE pending volunteer availability.
  • For the December holiday show, EDGE Gallery takes a 10% commission on the sale of artwork. For all other shows, no commission is taken.

Conduct:

  • Satellite members must abide by the same standard of conduct as EDGE Gallery Full and Associate members. This includes, but is not limited to, the following:
    1. Dues must be paid on time.
    2. Artwork must be delivered and picked up on time.
    3. Artwork must remain hung until the end of the exhibit unless specifically stated otherwise (as in the annual holiday show which is typically “cash and carry”).
    4. Notice to terminate membership must be sent to the Satellite committee by the drop-off date for the Holiday Show (or earlier if possible).
    5. In general, Satellite members must treat the other EDGE Gallery members, the public, the physical gallery space, and The HUB at 40 West Arts in a professional and respectful manner.

Changing Membership Levels:

  • Satellite members who wish to move to Full or Associate level must re-apply.
  • Leave-of-Absence/Satellite Combination: A Full or Associate member can drop down to Satellite level without applying, if there is a spot available. If they subsequently would like to return to their previous level of membership, they may do so within 12 months without re-applying (similar to a Leave of Absence). After 12 months they must re-apply to EDGE Gallery.
  • There is no Leave of Absence at the Satellite membership level.

Application Process:

Applicants must submit documentation of current work (from the last 5 years) and a short artist’s statement to

edge.satellite.member@gmail.com
Advice to applicants:
    • Presenting a consistent body of work is the best strategy for displaying your commitment to your art.
    •  Priority is given to artists who are familiar with our organization. We encourage artists to visit EDGE gallery before applying.

Video or performance artists please include link/s to your work samples in your email application.

All others send 6-8  jpeg images. Please size these to 700 pixels on the longest side.

Additional information is welcome: website, Instagram, etc.

Voting will be done by the entire EDGE Gallery membership in a timed, secret, on-line vote.  No interviews will be held.
