Geo Gio     Abraxas
Abraxas

This show is the culmination of ideas and visions that came to me beginning in the fall of 2019 which can only be crystallized here and now in the seven pieces for this exhibition. Abraxas comes from the Grand Archon of early Christian Heresy, Abraxas who is binding Good to Evil. I examine with paint and brush gnostic and ancient images of the divine as a way of personally and socially re-examining current psychological axioms. Using art as a scalpel to violently rip these long-forgotten ideas from the obscure, I work to re examine them on canvas.

Mark Farrell    Leave Scars
Boxcar Coven

My paintings in this show are comprised of works spanning the past two or three years, as well as work from last year.  In response to our recent show at Edge about gun violence, I am showing my painting “Fuck the NRA .” Another painting called “Boxcar Coven” was featured in New American Paintings. My recent paintings continue to lean into the supernatural and somewhat gothic spirit of “Boxcar Coven.”

In general , my work deals with things that are haunted. What haunts a place has nothing to do with religion, I think it has more to do with trauma. Most art is a coping mechanism that frames trauma in some way. I often populate my paintings with at least some kind of ghoul, and while I make them I ask myself “what is it to be haunted?”  I take many of my scenes from the Littleton suburbs where I grew up, and in the process of working I add what I’d like to see in those scenes. I do this to try to open the minds of some people to what could actually take place in the suburbs.

David Clark     Photoids
Tulip for Francis Bacon II

Photoids (photo-based mixed media pieces) and other images in this show employ the use of various methods and materials to explore the visual representation of ideas after my 23-year hiatus (1997-2020) from art making.  Although I had delved a bit into photography during this time, I did almost nothing with my home-turf disciplines of drawing, painting and printmaking. It feels good to be making images once again using all the image-making tools at my disposal as so much of what I do is determined by a process-oriented response to the materials I have at hand

Gayla Lemke
Alane Holsteen

November 18, 2022 — December 4, 2022

Opening reception:  Friday, November 18, 2022, 6:00-9:00 pm

Gayla Lemke   Ripple Effect

Just as climate change is generating a ripple effect on various aspects of our lives, so too can actions taken by individuals and organizations in an effort to slow down the process. This body of work springs from a desire to express how climate change is affecting our environment, especially in the context of water.

Alane Holsteen   Hiraeth

Hiraeth is a homesickness, tinged with grief and sadness over the lost or departed.

In this new body of artwork I explore our earthen home, with a tinge of sadness as I watch climate change begin to devour the places we love so much. From deserts to oceans to bogs. We need to do more than extol the virtues of nature. We must collectively act now.

I create my artwork from nature—beeswax, Damar tree resin, and pigments. It is fully biodegradable and non toxic. The artwork is alive and continues to transform over time, like life.
