John Horner  Plague Series

61 Abstractions in a time of Pandemic.

Sarah Tenney  Harbinger

Sometimes life has foreshadowing.  The moment an idea becomes a viable option, as well as the implications that decision carries for following generations, is the crux of this series. The past and present are linked through colorful tales from my lineage. My loved ones and I interact with animal stand-ins to illustrate stories about familial relationships and our inner lives, and more subtly, social issues that pull at families and individuals.

Alexandra Lorrae  It Comes At Night
Sourheart

It Comes At Night represents my personal struggles over the years with PTSD, depression, addiction & anxiety. Like most, the pandemic turned my world upside. The only job I ever wanted, a photographer who toured with metal bands, was taken away from me. I was left with no clue when I’d be able to get it back or what to do with myself to stay creative. Knowing it would be a test to my sobriety along with my confidence as an artist, the idea of giving up seemed much easier than starting over. However I decided to start over. During the last 15 months, I re-visited my love for horror, dark art & the macabre to create what you see in It Comes At Night.

Please be advised, some of what you will see isn’t suitable for a younger &/or sensitive audience.

Sue Crosby Doyle  Re-Entry
Visual Sentence #1

Last year, 2020, was a year of lock down for most of us. I chose to do art and I found some online art classes to take. One of these was the visual sentences. All the paper in the sentence has been printed on, cut apart then joined together to form a visual sentence.

Deborah Abbott   Found Fields
Collage of recycled materiala with clock faces, mountain imagery, cowboy boots.
Time to Go West, 23″ x 29″ , Recycled Found Material

Abbott’s work is on a mission to save items from the landfill through reducing, reusing, and upcycling material to make sustainable eco-conscious art. All the materials used in the making of my art were saved from entering the waste stream. The work is based in color theory and fields from the myriad of meanings of the word field and  uses material in their natural color state.

Jennifer Hope  Sundial: Paintings about Light and Time

Katherine Johnson  Changing Life

Abtract Painte wiith swirls and scratches white background. subtle highlights in shades of yellow and orange
Generation 30″ x 40″ Acrylic on canvas

Today is my only opportunity to use painting to express the impact of everything that is happening in this impermanent moment as it occurs.  Change has always been a constant in this life.  The only difference now is an acceptance that living and painting are an expression of change.

Phil Rader  Authentic Explorations

Abstract Oil Paiting with Turquoise background and organic shapes

Unique oil paintings spontaneously and intuitively created using the experimental process.

Rachel Amos  Through The Roots with Fungi

Pastel drawing of plants soil and roots
Late Winter unframed, approx. 16” x 19.5″ chalk pastel and pastel pencil

These pastel drawings are a combination of meditation and fantasy about roots and their fungal companions. In some pieces I was looking to show how that companionship works, and in others I was letting fantasy probe the relationship.

Gail Wagner  Diverge

Abstract painting of organic forms derived from nature. Blues and Greens.
Laminaria, 18″ x 24″, acrylic on paper

I am fascinated by the study of nature. With our human limitations we try to understand the natural world: we create systems of naming and organization, describe patterns, and observe behaviors. Despite hundreds of years of investigation, there remain natural phenomena that resist categorization and cross formulated boundaries.  In “Diverge” I explore these paradoxes by juxtaposing contrasting images, techniques, and painting styles. With the goal of harmonizing opposites, I play with balance and imbalance, asking the viewer to continue the process with their own imagination.

Keep Kids Creating Art Benefit Exhibition and Silent Auction

An Exhibition and Auction Benefiting Local School Art Programs

Showing May 28 – June 13, 2021

See, bid on, or buy art outright online here:
https://www.32auctions.com/keepkidscreatingart

Keep Kids Creating Art is a silent auction of local artwork to benefit Lakewood classrooms in need of art  supplies. 40 West Arts along with the Edge and Next galleries in Pasternack’s Art Hub are partnering to  create this multi-space public event from May 28 to June 13, 2021. 40 West Arts and Pasternak’s Art  Hub are located along the historic West Colfax Avenue in Northeast Lakewood, CO.

We recognize that on-line and hybrid learning has created even more barriers for young artists to be  able to create artwork in schools. Joining local professional artists together, our goal is to help bring  more resources to nearby Jeffco schools who have expressed need for their art programs. All proceeds  generated from the auction go directly to Rose Stein Elementary, Jefferson Junior Senior High School, and Molholm Elementary.

Artwork generously donated by local artists will be displayed in various locations throughout the 40  West Arts District for the duration of the event. 40 West Arts Gallery, Edge Gallery, and the Elevation  Space at the Pasternack’s Art Hub are all participating spaces for public viewing and bidding on the art.  Gallery hours may vary due to Covid constraints so checking gallery websites is recommended before  planning a visit. Face masks and social distancing are required in the gallery spaces.
