Edge Forced Out of Prism by Burdensome City of Denver Construction Regulations

(Aug 7, 2017) Well, the city of Denver did it again. First, we were priced out of our 25+ years on Navajo Street because of gentrification, and now we have been asked to move by the owners of Prism Workspaces–not that they don’t want us, but because the city’s absurd requirements have overburdened them and us. We can’t thank Prism enough for the support they have given us, we will miss the connection we’ve had with them.

We are looking for a space in Lakewood’s 40West Art District hopefully near Pirate, and Next. Lakewood wants alternative art, stay tuned!

Edge recommends the website, One GoodEye, for reviews and listings of art exhibitions around Denver. Check it out!

Stories with Earth and Water – Rachael Amos
My attention swings from personal landscape to landscape in the myths of native Americans, but always earth and water are part of the story. This is due partly to the earthy nature of the pastel medium, which attracts me back again and again to its gritty contact with paper, and partly I think, due to the way my consciousness of nature has been raised by the reading I’ve done in the Land Library book club. It would be pushing it to say It’s an ecoconsciousness, but it’s much more like that than previously.

Katherine Johnson – No Solid Ground
So much of what once seemed unchanging in life is changing more quickly than ever. In this time of personal, societal and environmental turmoil, I paint from a place of groundlessness where nothing is certain. Using color more intensely or not; defining shapes with lines or running lines alone; looking to previous context or jumping into a new way that defines itself. How does it feel to let go in this way? The act of working with whatever comes brings solace where it is much needed in order to live with the uncertainty of an evolving world.

September 15 – October 9, 2016 : Dania Pettus, Jane Davis & Susan Berkley

Opening Reception – Friday, September 16,  6-10pm

id-Dania Pettus  The non-pictorial image gives intrinsic (belonging naturally) substance to my images.  The innate impulses of my mark making on the negative and the addition of collage scraps symbolize my thoughts and visions.  My self-critical conscience struggles to find my place. The results of the mark making are the mediations between my conscious and subconscious.
