Lydia Farrell     Spam Calls From The Abyss
Augury for Nex, 48″ X 60″, Oil Paint on Canvas

I don’t like making shows about just one topic. When I make a painting, I feel like anything can potentially be a subject: Being trans, acknowledging mystery, sobriety, politics, even pop culture. In these dark times I think it is important to sometimes be direct (especially when it comes to politics). Personally, though, I don’t like making things that are just a quick execution of my first idea. I like making work where I have a conversation with the piece. But if I put in something political, I want it to be direct and painterly.

Janine Thornton     Women’s Rights
